PE
PE Intent
At Our Lady of Lourdes our high quality Physical Education Curriculum inspires pupils to excel in both competitive sport and also physically demanding activities. Physical Education (PE) develops physical competence and confidence so that pupils are able to manoeuvre effectively and safely. It equips the children with the skills and knowledge to become healthy individuals who then develop to become healthy adults. Our PE curriculum links closely with our Relationship and Health Education Curriculum, teaching pupils to develop strategies to look after their physical and mental health and to understand the benefits of this in an age appropriate way. We want all pupils to develop competences to excel in a broad range of physical activities. It is important that children are physically active for sustained periods of time. We want as many children to engage in competitive sports and activities.
All pupils will have a broad range of opportunities to develop competence in physical activities. They will progressively build upon skills and be physically active for a sustained period of time in every lesson that is delivered.
At Our Lady of Lourdes pupils will engage in a wide variety of competitive games and sports. Opportunities for competitive sport help to build character and embed values such as fairness and respect alongside perseverance and resilience. Through this, pupils will extend their understanding of teamwork and recognise the impact by having a healthy life and a positive mental well-being.
