Design and Technology Intent
It is the intention that Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. Pupils develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently so that they are developing the skills to enable them to be confident and participate successfully in a rapidly developing technological world. Pupils acquire a broad range of skills and subject knowledge and draw on other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. They learn to take risks, evaluate and reflect as they become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.
Aims:
- build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
- critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
- understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
Design Technology allows pupils to reflect and evaluate present and past technology, its uses and impact and helps them to become astute and informed future consumers and potential innovators.
