Spring term and Half-term break

Thank you to all of our parents and carers for your positive support during this half of the Spring Term, as always it was a half-term full of new learning experiences for our pupils. As we break for the half-term holiday, we wish all our pupils and their families a very safe and relaxing half-term break together. Let us take this opportunity to remind you that second half of the Spring Term starts Monday 24th February at 8:45am.

You will see in the Upcoming Events section above, we have planned a number of experiences outside of the classroom to enhance and enrich our pupils learning, many of these include field trips to support our geography curriculum. This is not the full list of all the Spring Term activities/events, so do also refer to the school calendar found above the search menu on the top right hand side of our school website. Please note that Year 4 swimming lessons do continue throughout the whole of the Spring term and so do the Street Dance lessons for our Year 5 pupils.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Thank you to all our parents who took the opportunity to meet with your child/children’s teacher this week, particularly in such bitter cold weather.  This is a valuable time for parents to view your child/children’s work, their progress across the different curriculum areas and also to discuss with teachers the next stage in their learning. Thank you also to our teachers for all the preparation and organisation prior to these meetings.

Tuesday 25th February at 6pm - Year 5 Parents Meeting for the upcoming French Residential

A reminder of the letter that was sent out this week to all Year 5 parents, that a meeting is to be held in the school hall on Tuesday 25th February at 6pm for all Year 5 pupils and their parents.  Mrs Sherlock, our History and Geography Curriculum Leader who also coordinates the trip, will give an overview of the upcoming Year 6 French Residential in October 2020 and staff will be available to answer any questions you may have.  This trip gives the pupils a wonderful opportunity to experience a different culture, employ their French speaking skills, try new activities all while enhancing existing friendships and making new ones.  Overall it is a positive experience for our pupils and has always generated overwhelming positive feedback from all who have attended.

Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day – 11th February

On Tuesday we celebrated the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. Thank you to Father Neil Brett, from St Anne Line’s Parish, who celebrated Mass with our Reception to Year 6 pupils. The theme of the Mass reflected on Mary’s words at the wedding at Cana, “Do whatever he tells you.” Each class revisited the story of St Bernadette, below are photos of the grotto that our Reception pupils imaginatively created. The Reception pupils drew and wrote about the story of Lourdes and prayed for their friends in front of the grotto.

To coincide and celebrate our Feast Day, every year group from Nursery to Year 6 helped to create an abstract art piece to celebrate Our Lady of Lourdes. These range from roses to rocks and candles to crowns.  Do look out for this unique art display on the window by the inside hall doors and here is a photo of the display below.

Cake Sale – an enormous thank you!

Thank you to all our families for their incredible generosity with supporting Wednesday’s Cake Sale. A total of £290.73 was raised! All of this money will go towards supporting Mrs Daniell’s daughter who is off to Uganda later this year to help support the building of a nursery and primary school. As a Rights Respecting School, this contributes to our global support.

Book Week at OLOL – Monday 2nd March to Friday 6th March

This year we have chosen to explore the works of William Shakespeare at school. The pupils will be looking at his works, characters and the legacy he has left the world. From Nursery to Year 6 the pupils will look at carefully chosen adaptations of the British poet and playwright. This coincides with Year 5’s study later in the year of the children’s adapted version of Macbeth.

The pupils can come dressed as a book character of their own choice on Friday 6th March. Please note, it can be any appropriate book character, it doesn’t have to be a Shakespeare character!

Redbridge Music Festival at The Royal Albert Hall - Our Lady of Lourdes Year 5 and Year 6 Choir

Mrs Teague, our Music Curriculum Leader, along with Mrs Crowley and Mrs Davies, are busily preparing our Year 5 and Year 6 school choir for their performance in the Redbridge Music Festival at The Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 4th March. We know that the parents have purchased their tickets and are excited to see their child sing at such a prestigious venue, as are the children!

Have a safe and restful half-term,

The School Staff
